Goins Dancing Competition Team

Goins Dancing is committed to the self-confidence of every dancer. We emphasize personal growth and sportsmanship above all else.

Our competition team participates in about 3 competitions per year. They are typically in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Georgia. Sometimes hotel stays are necessary. Competition schedules are announced about a week in advance. It was not until that announcement that we know when each of our competition dances will perform.

Auditions: Auditions are held each Spring. All interested dancers are accepted onto the team. Auditions determine sub-group placements, and production roles, and help plan choreography. Dance PossAbilities dancers are exempt from auditions (See below).

Sub-Groups: Sub-groups are separate classes that dancers are placed in according to age and skill level. There are about 4-5 sub-groups each year. This number can increase or decrease based on the number of children who audition and the variety of abilities demonstrated. Subgroups meet once a week for 45 - 60 minutes. Please note: Baby Competition and Dance PossAbilities are two sub-groups that do not require auditions to determine enrollment.

Production: This is a large dance number that is of a longer duration (8 -10 minutes) than the other dance numbers. This class meets once a week for an hour.

Prerequisites: To be eligible for the competition team, dancers must take ballet, one other group class, and a full year company class. (Does not apply to Dance PossAbilities.)

Solos, Duets, and Trios: Dancers must be in a sub-group of production to be eligible to compete solos, duets, and trios.

Choreography Camp: Competition dancers will attend a 1-week Choreography camp in July or August the cost is $100 for the week. (Dance PossAbilities does not need to attend this. See below.)

Competition Fees: Each competition will charge a fee for each dance. Fees for group dances are less expensive than the fees for trios, duets, and solos. Each dancer’s competition fees will vary based on how many dances in which they are competing and the number of people in the dance. Solos have the highest fees.

Extra Rehearsals: There will be some extra rehearsals. Dates and times will be announced. Extra rehearsals cost $10 per child.

Costumes: Competition dancers need different costumes for each competition dance that they are in. These costumes cost slightly more than the costume they will need for their non-competition dances.
